Dr. R. John Tannyhill is Clinical Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Director of the Advanced Education Program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at GSDM and Boston Medical Center.

A graduate of Brigham Young University, he obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the UCLA School of Dentistry and an MD from Harvard Medical School. He completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Prior to joining Boston University, Dr. Tannyhill was an assistant professor at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the OMFS residency program director at the Massachusetts General Hospital. His interests include surgical education, trauma surgery, corrective jaw surgery, sleep apnea surgery, and office-based surgery including wisdom teeth removal, complex surgical implantology and ambulatory anesthesia.

Dr. Tannyhill is actively engaged in a number of professional organizations and serves on numerous committees for various national organizations, including the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
